Husband gave mahr back after khula: ..

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalaam aleikum wa rahmatu allahi wa barakatu, I am divorced by means of khula. In return for my freedon I gave back the mahr. A week after the khula, my ex husband gave me back the mahr and said he didn't want it and that I could have it anyways. Am I allowed to keep this now that he has given it back or do I have to give back the mahr despite of the fact that he doesn't want it in order for the khula to be valid? Djazak Allahu ghayr. Wa aleikum salaam.

Answer:

Husband gave mahr back after khula

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

If your ex husband returned the mehr after the khula, you are within your rights to keep it and do whatever you wish with it. There is no harm or restriction in this.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allahs Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
