Miracles performed by the Dai

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

One more thing, about Syedna, I have seen many miracles performed by him and we have personally witnessed it, ( after all channels exhausted), like people getting children by his blessing thru' Allah, people getting cured in good health again by his blessing thru' Allah and so on, the list is endless and this is no joke but real.  What have you to say about this?

Looking forward to your answer by return.

Your brother In Islam,

A similar question was asked on the forum:

I have a question based on the so called "miracles" performed by the "daii".

I have heard from numerous sources that when a person is sick, and he visits the "daii" for shifaa, the person usually gets better. How can this be possible when the performer of miracles and the giver of shifaa is only Allah Almighty? What power of miracles does the "daii" posses to cure a sick person from his sickness just by saying a few words into a bottle of water and giving it to him?

I do not beleive in this miracles done by the "daii" but I do think that our Bohra brothers and sisters believe in these miracles performed by our current :"daii" and the past ones. Please explain this miracle business to me and our brothers and sisters.

Answer:

Miracles performed by the Dai

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and who-ever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Miracles can be described as an act of a super-natural power, which is done out of the routine of nature.

Allah has made a way or ‘sabab’ for everything to happen in this world, and anything that happens beyond this way or ‘sabab’ is termed a miracle. For example, if you need to go from New York to Los Angeles, you have to take the ‘sabab’ of some kind of transport. If you got up in New York and the next second you were in Los Angeles without any transport, it would be a miracle!

Miracles are only in the domain of Allah Alone and nobody has a right to do any miracles, unless Allah Himself commands and sends the miracle to any of his slaves. No one, absolutely no one, can do a miracle by his own self; not even the mightiest Prophets of Allah. Allah Subhanah appointed Prophets, and He gave the sign of Miracles to them. Allah gives many examples of His Miracles in the Holy Quran which he gave to Prophet Abraham, Prophet Moses, Prophet Isa and many other Prophets. These miracles were not performed at the whim of the Prophets, but were always in Allah’s Hands and Commands.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 13 Surah Raad verse 38: We have sent many Messengers before you (O Mohamed), and We assigned to them wives and children. And no Messenger had the power to show any Miracles without the sanction of Allah.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imran verse 49-50: (Jesus said), “I have come to you with a clear Sign (Miracle) from your Lord. In your very presence, I make the likeness of a bird out of clay and breathe into it, and it becomes, by Allah’s Command, a bird. I heal those born blind and the lepers and I bring to life the dead by Allah’s Command. I inform you what you eat and what you store up in your homes. Surely there is a great Sign for you in all this, if you have a mind to believe.”

Allah has appointed only Messengers from Himself. No imam, no dai, no wali, no auliya, nobody can come and claim that they are so and so from Allah, except His Messengers. Prophet Mohamed (saws) was Allah’s last Messenger, and after him, no Messengers are going to come from Allah, as promised in the Holy Quran. The imams, dai, walis, auliyas, are people we have made ourselves and have absolutely no authority from Allah. It is only Allah who will decide on the Day of Judgement who deserves these titles. Only the Messengers of Allah come to the people of their community and announce themselves that they have been appointed the Messengers by the Lord of the Worlds. No one else can come and announce that he has been appointed by Allah as an Imam, or dai, or wali, etc. and if any one does so, he is a confirmed liar as stated in the Quran.

When Allah appoints His Messengers, He gives the signs of Miracles so that the people may recognize that indeed He is the Messenger of Allah. The Miracles are mainly for the unbelievers who have always challenged Allah’s Messengers and told them that they were liars. Allah grants the Messengers the signs of Miracles if and when He wants, and not when the Messengers ask for it. It is not upto the Messengers to bring any Miracles, Allah decides when and to whom the Miracles are to be shown. They normally are shown as the final ‘hujjat’ or argument for the unbelievers.

Regarding the stories of the Miracles of the Dai or anybody else, these are nothing but stories and heresay. The Last Person to do any miracles was the Prophet Mohamed (saws) himself, and anybody who claims they can do miracles is nothing but a confirmed liar.

The trials that one goes through in one’s lifetime are a test from Allah. Allah tests the person in health, wealth, children, honor, etc., and Allah Alone can give these tests and Allah Alone can remove these trials. All these trials by Allah are for a fixed period, and Allah tests his slaves to see what His slave does. Does he beg Allah Alone to remove these trials from him, or does he go to any idol or grave or anything or anybody else for that matter, thinking that that person or grave has the power to remove his trials from him.

The trial are for a fixed time period set by Allah and will be removed only when this time period expires. Thus the one who supplicates Allah Alone, and begs Allah Alone to remove these trials, passes the test. And the one who goes everywhere else, thinking that somebody might be able to influence the decision of Allah, fails the test. He will recover his health, or wealth or get his children at the exact time Allah has decreed anyways. The people who go to every possible door to remove their calamity, will also be removed from the trial on the exact date Allah has decreed. What happens with these people is when their calamity is removed by Allah, they start believing that it had something to do with the last grave they invoked, and they start believing in that grave as their helper and protector! Then they start their stories, saying they went here and there, and their prayers were accepted by the person in this grave, and thus make it a place of worship. Although it is Allah Alone who causes the trials, and it is Allah Alone who has the power to remove them.

You will also realize that these fancy stories of miracles are just about related to every idol and every grave, and there are literally hundreds of these miracles attached to each over a period of time! Remember the miracle of the hindu god ‘ganpati’ and the drinking of the milk? Remember the story of baby Jesus crying in New York? Remember the water coming out of Raudat Tahera and the other ‘mazaars’ simultaneously in quick succession and then suddenly stopped? These stories may have any number of reasons, but once they start, they spread like wild fire and people keep adding their own versions into them. The fact is that only Allah has the right to show miracles and no one else!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anam verse 37: These people ask: “Why has no Sign (Miracle) been sent down to this Prophet from his Lord?” Say (O Mohamed), “Allah Alone is able to send down a Sign (Miracle), but most of these people do not understand the wisdom underlying it.”

May Allah take us out of the worship of Personalities in their graves, and bring us to the worship of the Lord of the Worlds. May Allah guide you and us to read and understand the Holy Quran, so that we can realize from the Words of Allah, who commands every aspect of the Universe. May Allah guide you and us all to the Straight Path of Islam. Ameen.

May Allah guide you and us all to the Siraat al-Mustaqeem

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
