Umrah: I have paid for his hajj badal last year and my mother done umrah on his behalf..

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Brother, Assalam Alikum,

My brother, myself and mother who is blind done umrah in 2006, incidentally my Br suffered from schizophrenia for years. We got misplaced at Masjid al Haram from him and when found each other we realized at the hotel he did not clip his hair, he had already taken off his ihram. I therefore, clip his hair after purchasing a scissor. Is this acceptable. My dear Brother has passed away few years ago and I am so worried for him. I have paid for his hajj badal last year and my mother done umrah on his behalf.. Please advice if this is ok, if not please advice what I can do.

Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Whatever the reasons might have been, if one removes the 'ehram' before shaving or cutting short the hair on one's head, one would have deemed to have violated one of the rites of pilgrimage.  The atonement for doing that is to offer one sacrifice for the error.

It would be best if you could arrange to offer a sacrifice of atonement for that error on behalf of your brother; it is expected that your Lord Most Merciful will not diminish even an iota of reward due unto you and your brother for your pilgrimage.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brothers and well wishers in Islam,
